Not too much to report about this week. I had my meeting with my career coach who gave me advice on how to update my resume to read better and perhaps land more interviews. Since I have reached day 120 of my career search I will be connected with a new career coach to give a second look at my resume and LinkedIn and offer new strategies.

For the technical portion of this blog I want to talk about how to start coding as a hobby. I have a lot of friends who have asked me how to get into coding as a side hobby without having to invest in so much time for a bootcamp. To help them out I scoured the net for all the best free resources to start them on their coding journey and I am now going to share those with you!

The best resource I have found to help people start coding is w3schools here:

They have an endless trove of information and lessons in almost any language you can think of. From the basics of HTML and CSS to more complex languages like JavaScript/React, and Ruby. This had also been a great resource to learn even more as a supplement to my bootcamp. The lessons will give you a basic overview of the subject and also include a ‘code-along’ example in their web-based IDE that students can use to see real life examples of how the code works! If you feel like you need a little bit more (i never did), they also offer paid courses.

While w3school is great for picking up a lesson here and there, if you want a more comprehensive curriculum, Free Code Camp offers structured rigorous courses and certification on many different technologies including responsive web-design, JavaScript, back-end development, Python, and many more. It also includes coding interview prep if you decide to make a career out of it. Check it out here:

Another one I found that was more ‘fun’ was Codewars. It is meant for people who already know a little bit of coding but want to sharpen their skills through different coding challenges. Check it out here:

If you are interested in learning how to create IOS apps for your iphone, I strongly suggest checking out Hacking With Swift. It offers endless tutorials through examples of building many different IOS apps. The tutorials can be read through or followed along through the creators Youtube channel. Check it out here:

I hope this list is helpful to get you started on your coding journey and piques your interest!
